The Casio Story
With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.
In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, "What is a wristwatch?" Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.
Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.
In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.
Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.

Practical watch for the surfer in you
By Eagle Vision
Well, I do body boarding and I wanted a water resistant watch that was not terribly expensive. This is a cost effective timepiece given the functions and design.
The durability of the watch for 200m is good for someone with an active lifestyle in the water. This is a simple watch that has a timer, stopwatch, 3 alarms, and illuminated hands for when you are reading the time in the dark. The light allows for viewing in total darkness but the script can be small for some folks. The moon data is nice to have, but not something that I depend upon.
The band is comfortable and the watch is solid in construction. I do find reading the digital time and date difficult with the hands in the way but it is not a deal breaker. The protective crystal is scratch resistant but not protected by the bezel.
It is a solid choice for a person with an active lifestyle.

Great allround outdoor sports watch
By Jonathan Selkirk
My wife bought me this fantastic watch a little over three years ago and it is still going strong.
There's hardly a scratch on the crystal which suggests it's good quality, bearing in mind the
tortures I have put this watch through. I have travelled all over the Northern territory of Australia,
South East Asia and New Zealand with this watch, and believe me when I say it has copped a beating.
Main reason for travelling with this particular watch is that it's got dual time. Actally 3 times zones with
the analogue display. The resin band is very comfortable and the water resistance is 200 metres (660 feet)
Having 3 alarms is handy on the go for reminding you about activities you have booked.
The watch, like most Casios, features a countdown timer, stopwatch and electro luminscence lighting,
and this model featues a tide graph and a moon phase indicator. Just make sure you set the home site data.
It's also got an auto light.
With the negatives on this model I find the digital reading can be obscured by the analogue hands which
is annoying when you have set 3 different times zones, otherwise using it in my home city it's not such
a drama. The resin band for some reason is subject to building up quite alot of the white powdery dust
on this model compared to other resin bands I own, but this is easily cleaned with a soft cloth.
All in all I really like this model and wear it all the time due to it ruggedness. I would definatley
recommend this watch for people who like outoor activities. Or for anyone who happens like the look of them.

If you have a g-shock in mind, read this, because I bought it after returning a g-shock
By bilgircik
I have been using this watch only for a couple weeks, but let me share my opinions.
Positive sides:
1. It is a good looking watch (according to me, of course), when you consider its price. Any of your friends would envy this watch on your wrist!
2. Easy to use
3. Has a lot o features; moon - tile, chronometre, bla bla...
4. It is not "solar" or "10 years battery" or whatever, so you can change the battery whenever you what and use your watch! Ask to the ones with "solar" or "10 years battery", what happens when it is dead.
5. I would recommend this one to the guys having "outdoor" activities, but regarding its price!!!
Negative (shared or would be shared by many of the reviewers):
1. The crystal is not protected by the bezel. It is said to be durable to scratches, but I am not quite sure about it, will learn by the time (so you will)
2. The digital reading can be obscured by the analogue hands, but it is the same with most of pieces in market, I do not know why, but it is (it was not so with my last watch from Casio, but it was 1992 then :))
3. To the outdoor guys: The watch has a moon - tile feature, and it is accurate, I really tried it! BUT, you need a GPS or internet connection learn the location where you are to adjust it, for you have to install a few data. So, why do you need the moon sight or tile, if you already have one of these, unless, you are going to be lost in the city/town/village you are already living in? Just for fun, supposedly, but not to survive! Note: This watch has NO compass! The letters such as N - S - W - E and others on the bezel mean nothing, just for decoration!
To CASIO, if they are reading:
1. A compass on this watch would be decent, a wrist-on maybe, intead of a digital one. And, anyone who spend a little time "outdoor" should know that they would not trust a digital compass, moon - tile, world time or... or whatever... but, it would be "nice".
2. If you are trying to produce a watch for "outdoor", you should protect the crystal!!!
3. An analog hand for the seconds would be great!
Anyway, you can get at least ten times more what you payed for it ($ 30 - 40), much more better then the g-shock atomic - solar - world time etc ... stuff!!! Or else, you can pay at least #$ 200 for a real one :)
